Set up Groundwire with your IPFINITY service

Set up Groundwire with your IPFINITY service

Groundwire by Acrobits lets you use your IPFINITY extension on an iPhone, iPad, Android phone or Android tablet over Wi-Fi or mobile data.

Before you begin: Ask IPFINITY Support for your Groundwire username, password and gateway/domain. Keep these credentials private. Do not reuse credentials from another phone or user unless IPFINITY Support specifically instructs you to do so.

1. Install Groundwire

  1. Open the Apple App Store or Google Play.
  2. Search for Acrobits Groundwire.
  3. Purchase and install the application. The store price may vary by device, country and currency.
  4. Open Groundwire and allow the permissions it needs for calls. At minimum, allow microphone, phone/calling and notifications. On Android, also allow the application to ignore battery optimization when prompted so incoming calls can arrive reliably.

2. Add your IPFINITY SIP account

iPhone and iPad

  1. Open the Keypad tab.
  2. Select the settings icon, then Accounts.
  3. Select the + icon.
  4. Select New SIP Account or Generic SIP Account.

Android

  1. Open Groundwire and select the settings icon.
  2. Select Settings > Accounts.
  3. Select the + icon.
  4. Select New SIP Account or Generic SIP Account.

3. Enter the account details

  • Title: IPFINITY, or another label that identifies the extension.
  • Username: Enter the username provided by IPFINITY Support.
  • Password: Enter the password exactly as provided. Passwords are case-sensitive.
  • Domain: Enter the IPFINITY gateway or domain provided by Support, without spaces.
  • Display name: Enter the user's name, if required.

Select the check mark, Save or Done. Return to the main screen. The SIP service icon should be solid green when the account is registered.

4. Confirm the IPFINITY settings

Open the account and select Advanced Settings. Unless IPFINITY Support gives different instructions, use:

  • Transport protocol: UDP
  • Registration expiry: 600 seconds
  • Incoming calls: Push Notifications
  • Audio codecs: Use the codec list provided by IPFINITY Support. Do not purchase or enable an additional codec unless Support confirms it is required for your account.

Save the account again after making changes.

5. Test the application

  1. Confirm that the account indicator is green.
  2. Dial 333 and confirm that the test audio is clear.
  3. Place an outgoing call and confirm clear two-way audio.
  4. Call the extension from another phone and confirm that Groundwire rings promptly.
  5. Answer the incoming call and confirm there is no excessive connection delay.
  6. Lock the phone or place Groundwire in the background, then repeat the incoming-call test.
  7. If the user will use both Wi-Fi and mobile data, test once on each connection.

Troubleshooting

  • Red account indicator: Check the internet connection and re-enter the username, password and domain. Contact IPFINITY Support if it remains red.
  • Incoming calls do not ring: Confirm notifications are enabled for Groundwire, Push Notifications is selected for incoming calls and battery optimization is disabled for Groundwire on Android.
  • Calls connect slowly or audio is poor: Record the date, exact time, calling number, destination number, connection type and what each party heard. Send those details to IPFINITY Support.
  • Do not delete the existing softphone: Keep the current application until Groundwire has passed incoming, outgoing, background and two-way-audio testing.
